I have loved this song since I performed it with the Longwood University Jazz Ensemble all the way back in 2005. However, I had always felt a need for redemption, because when we performed this live, I completely choked and butchered the melody line that was in unison with the horn parts, so it was painfully obvious. When it came time in 2012 to perform a piece for the groove exam at Gerald Veasely's Bass Bootcamp, it seemed like the perfect time. In the space of two days, I worked up the intro and the melody for the groove exam. Shortly after that experience, I purchased a 6-string bass and wrote the full-arrangement, debuting it during a couple of duo gigs with fellow bassist, Brittany Frompovich in late 2012 and early 2013.
