This is probably the closest thing to the 'eff-you' song on the album. All of the anger, frustration, and heavy-metal upbringing led to this one's creation. The back half of this song actually came first, as I was experimenting with the Helix and the equivalent of a freeze pedal effect within a ton of different reverbs and delays that would overdrive/feedback on each other. Combining all of that with the Gamechanger Audio Plus Pedal (sustain... like a freeze pedal, but more of a micro looper) made for some of the coolest ambient effects I'd heard... so cool, I couldn't believe I was making them. The rest of the song developed over a couple of weeks.
Recording this song was a herculean task for me. The music, structure, even lyrics, all came so easily, but getting it to sound like what I hear in my head took over a year after I'd recorded the last part.
lyrics
Heartbeat stopping,
Life signs fading away,
Darkness spreading,
Blood is staining.
You think you've done no wrong?
Self-righteously strong?
Look deep into the mirror underneath all of your fear,
And tell me again, how you 'only did what's right',
Reach down for the knife, and pull it out from deep inside of me.
You think you've done no wrong?
Self-righteously strong?
Look deep into the mirror down underneath all of your fear,
And tell me again, how you 'only did what's right',
Reach down for the knife, and pull it out from deep inside of me.
Pull it out,
Pull it out from deep inside of me.
